Swim Team Information

Welcome to the PVRA Swim Team!  Registration for the swim team no longer occurs in conjunction with your registration for the pool. It costs $150 for the first child to participate, $125 for the 2nd child and $100 for each additional child. This includes the end-of-season banquet, trophies for all swimmers, individual swimmer team gifts and championship entries, fun team building games and activities.

Swim team checks must be made payable to PVRA, separate from the membership registration check, received no later than June 2. Please put "swim team" in the memo section, and mail to:

48 Powdermaker Dr

Ridgefield CT 06877

The team is open to all swimmers age 6 to 16. Younger swimmers MUST be able to swim at least one lap of the pool without stopping. If you are unsure, please bring your swimmer to the first practice for an evaluation. Like last year, we hope to be offering swim lessons for younger swimmers during swim practice who are not quite ready to join the team and are eager to learn how to swim.

Swim Team Overview 2017

We will continue to have more 1-on-1 coaching, fun and games during practices, and team spirit activities. We want our kids to become good swimmers while having lots of fun during our summer swim team season.

Our pool director and his team of coaches are creating a detailed fun filled swim team calendar with lots of fun activities for our swimmers. There will be four Age Group swim team coaches  to ensure that everyone gets the coaching they need. Each age group has a coach and an assistant so that there are two coaches in the water with the kids at all times.  In addition there will also be coaches in training/meet helpers in the water at practice to assist with our youngest swim team members.

See Swim Team Staff for list of this year's coaches for each age group.

Swim practice will start Monday, June 26 2017. Practice times have changed slightly since 2016.

Meet and Practice Schedule

Swim team members are responsible for being at practice on time as there is a cascading effect if practices start late, possibly impacting the pool opening for all members.  Please be respectful of the times.

Also, please have your child swim with their age group for the first few days of practice.  The coaches will let you know if they would like your child to switch practices.

Warm-ups are typically 30 minutes prior to the start of the swim meet.  As with last year, there will be six to seven meets this season, with at least one night meet.  We expect to have the schedule no later than mid-June and will post it as soon as it is received.

State Line championships will be held the first week in August.  Swimmers qualify for championships during regular dual meets by meeting minimum time requirements.  Any specific dates or any changes will be made available as soon as we have them.

Meet and Practice Schedule

Please note that ALL parents of swim team members are required to volunteer at two meets during the season.  Sign-ups will be online again this summer!  More information will be available after meet dates are established.  This means that you need to perform one of the volunteer positions shown below at two meets.  Volunteer descriptions follow: Timer (split into two sessions).  Timer is responsible for using a stopwatch to time the swimmer in your designated lane.  There are two timers per lane, one representing PVRA, another volunteer is from the competing team.  PVRA has four lanes, some of the other teams we swim against have six or eight lanes, so we either need four, six or eight volunteers per session.   Runner (split into two sessions).  Runner is responsible for collecting swim cards from the timer in each lane and bringing them to the score table.  Scorer (full meet).  Scorer is responsible to score the meet.  You will be given detailed instructions and brief training.  There will be two scorers (one from each team).

8 & under Age Group Helpers.  Help is needed to “collect” the kids and make sure that they are lined up and ready to race.  Two helpers are needed for each age group.
